With Everything I’ve Got

And if a day goes by without my doing something related to photography,

it’s as though I’ve neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up.

I know that the accident of my being a photographer has made my life possible.

Sunlight’s Kiss by Octavio Ocampo

Even Nature yearns to glimpse that which it has never seen

To taste that which it has never tasted.

Even Nature is desperate to experience the thing for which there is no proof of existence

But is utterly convinced

Is There.

Love…

…endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy, it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

For our knowledge is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect), and our prophecy (our teaching) is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect).

But when the complete and perfect (total) comes, the incomplete and imperfect will vanish away (become antiquated, void, and superseded).

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; now that I have become a man, I am done with childish ways and have put them aside.

     And so faith, hope, love abide, these three;

but the greatest of these

Is Love.

To Cease Hoping Is In Fact The Moment of Death

Ed’s Story

“I didn’t expect another Christmas, now I’ve had ten.  And I want more”

Stories like this serve to energise every dream and desire I have for myself and the future.

I don’t think it’s possible to tire of the underdog story.

Nor the victory in spite of insurmountable odds story.

Or the impossible made possible story.

I hope to add many of my own stories to this great collection one day.

To Run With The Herd

http://uploads5.wikipaintings.org/images/octavio-ocampo/to-run-with-the-herd.jpg

Surrealist painting ‘To Run With The Herd’ by Octavio Ocampo

Today I was thinking.

In the cacophony of different sounds and ideas floating around in musicdom, everything can kind of sound ‘same same but different’. As a musician you are often either imitating what you love or what you think works, or you are trying with all your might to go against the grain and be different. The thing is I haven’t found either mode of creativity particularly inspiring or fruitful.

What to do.

Truth is I do want to be innovative and break new ground musically, but when that’s my aim it all seems to get a bit weird.

Then I had a thought. (Not an original thought mind you. Loves me some irony.)

Just try to be me. Uniquely me. Writing lyrics that truly originate from my own thoughts and heart, creating melodies that spring from my own well.

Being impacted by outside influence is inevitable and I welcome it.

But creating that which honestly flows from ones own being is the way we will stand out if we so desire.

Because when it’s all said and done, there’s only one me.

And there’s only one you.

Love Is

An Every Second Thing,

It’s what makes our moments superb,

Though I don’t often profess my love,

It’s most definitely my favourite verb.

Gold In The Shadow

William Fitzsimmons.

These songs sound so close. Like William is singing and playing perched on a chair inside my head. I think it’s a mixture of the guitar and vocal melodies, the knowing, comfortable lyrics, the way his vocal has been recorded and the fact that I’m listening to this through headphones.

I like it.

Not many are allowed to sing inside my head. Fitzsimmons, you are most welcome.

If I Could Go Back To Any Age

And do it all again

With all that I know now…

I’d go back and be fifteen years old.

And the only thing I’d do differently is tell fear to go jump.

That would have changed everything.
